An Elkhart police officer was taken to a hospital after a squad car struck a parked vehicle on West Franklin Street.

Police said the marked patrol car was traveling west just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, when it hit an unoccupied vehicle parked along the north side of the street, between South Fifth Street and Franklin Court. The impact caused the squad car to roll onto its side.

The officer got out of the vehicle and was treated at the scene by Elkhart Fire Department medics. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment of what police described as apparently minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is investigating factors that led to the crash.
