Mishawaka’s annual fall leaf collection program gets underway on Monday, Oct. 19.
City crews will pick up leaves ahead of residents’ regularly scheduled trash collection days. For households with Monday trash pickup, leaf collection will take place Friday.
Residents should rake leaves to the edge of the curb and remove branches and other debris that could damage collection equipment.
City officials also ask residents to wait until their scheduled collection before raking leaves into the street. Leaves left there too long can clog storm sewers.
The program is part of the city’s seasonal effort to keep streets and drainage systems clear as leaves fall.
