Elkhart has opened 48 new apartments downtown as part of the city’s effort to expand affordable housing.

The 515 Apartments are within walking distance of a grocery store and Central Park.

Each apartment includes a patio or porch and a washer and dryer.

Residents also have access to a workout room.

Mayor Rod Roberson says the development gives people another opportunity to live downtown at an affordable price.
