INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A federal judge has set a hearing to consider Planned Parenthood’s bid to block a new Indiana law that bans abortions sought because of genetic abnormalities.

Judge Tanya Walton Pratt scheduled a June 14 hearing to weigh Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky’s request for an injunction to prevent the law from taking effect July 1.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana and Planned Parenthood sued Indiana last month, challenging both the law’s ban on abortions sought due to genetic abnormalities and a provision mandating that aborted fetuses be buried or cremated.

The groups say the law is unconstitutional and violates privacy rights.

North Dakota is the only other state that bans abortions sought because of genetic abnormalities, but similar measures have been debated in other states.
