HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) — A northern Indiana man has been sentenced to two years in prison for conspiracy to commit health care fraud.

Forty-two-year-old Anthony Bitterling of Winamac also was sentenced Thursday to 400 hours of community service and two years of supervised release. He was ordered to pay more than $1 million in restitution.

Court documents say Bitterling and two co-defendants, 62-year-old Roy Dunn of Monticello and 29-year-old Kahley Vergon-Mayotte of Reynolds, ran an ambulance company that fraudulently billed Medicare for transportation of Medicare recipients to dialysis appointments. The scheme resulted in Medicare paying out more than $1 million for medically unnecessary ambulance transportation.

Dunn was sentenced in January to two years and six months in prison and two years of supervised release. He was ordered to pay more than $1 million in restitution.

Vergon-Mayotte will be sentenced in mid-March.
