Indiana Dunes privatization deal could be back under Indiana Senate proposal

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Senate has approved a measure to reinvigorate a stalled privatization deal that would bring restaurants, a rooftop bar and a banquet center to Indiana Dunes State Park.

A bill approved 33-17 Tuesday would facilitate Valparaiso developer Chuck Williams’ plans to sell alcohol at the planned beachfront development. It would circumvent a local board and the state’s Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, which both ruled to deny Williams a permit.

The Senate bill is different from a version passed by the House, requiring the two chambers to both agree on the changes. If they do, the measure could soon be sent to Republican Gov. Mike Pence for a signature.

A spokeswoman for Pence says the governor will give “careful consideration” to the bill.
