Indiana woman dies after golf cart crashes on New Year's Eve

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) — Eastern Indiana police say a New Year’s Eve golf cart crash has killed a woman who was a passenger in the vehicle.

Henry County Coroner Steve Hacker says 51-year-old Shawne Land died late Thursday after the golf cart crashed along a county road.

The Star Press reports investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Department says the golf cart was being driven by a man when it left the road, traveled down a slight embankment and overturned about 10:45 p.m.

Land was trapped beneath the vehicle and later pronounced dead at a New Castle hospital.

The golf cart’s driver was taken to the hospital for an examination and for a blood draw and released pending further investigation.
