Indianapolis church gives $11,000 in grants to teachers for school supplies

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indianapolis church has given more than $11,000 to teachers to help pay for school supplies.

WTHR-TV reports Indy Metro Church gave the money Sunday to teachers in the Indianapolis Public Schools during the downtown church’s “Back to School Sunday” service.

Pastor Aaron Story says it’s a small token of their appreciation for all teachers do to shape the lives of children.

Story says that on average, teachers spend nearly $500 of their own money each year on school supplies. He says the church hopes the grants will alleviate some of those costs.

It wasn’t clear how many teachers received the grants.
