Notre Dame women's basketball looks to depth to replace Jewell Loyd, seeks sixth Final 4 appearance

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The Notre Dame women’s basketball team is hoping depth can help overcome the departure of Jewell Loyd.

Loyd led the Irish in scoring last year at 19.8 points a game and finished second in voting for The Associated Press Player of the Year award. She left school after her junior year for the WNBA.

Coach Muffet McGraw said the biggest question facing Notre Dame is who will replace Loyd as the player to take clutch shots. Two players expected to help fill the void are 6-3 forward Brianna Turner and point guard Lindsay Allen, the second- and third-leading scorers last season.

With eight All-Americans on the roster, McGraw said she expects the Irish will have a number of players who can make clutch shots.
