Red Arrow Highway construction delayed after local businesses protest plan to shut down road

Construction on Red Arrow Highway in Berrien County may be pushed back until August after several local businesses expressed concern that the construction would hurt them.

A 300-foot culvert in Chikaming Township needs to be repaired and the Berrien County Road Commission was planning on shutting down the road over the summer to work on it, WSJM reported.

But after businesses protested the plan, claiming that construction would cause them to lose business during their busiest season, the commission agreed to push back the construction start date until Aug. 15.

The commission will scan the area along the culvert to make sure the road won’t collapse over the summer while construction is delayed.
