Dead animals found near Red Mill County Park likely killed by trains, police say

Police are no longer investigating several dead animals found decapitated near railroad tracks in LaPorte County.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department ended their investigation after a Norfolk Southern employee called police to say that it’s common to find large numbers of animals dead near railroad tracks, WSBT reported.

Animals are attracted to the tracks when grain spills from trains, he said, and many are killed while eating the grain.
