The mother of a 2-year-old Plymouth girl who police say was beaten to death in September pleaded guilty to a neglect charge on Thursday, Oct. 29.
Krysti Lavanway, 24, rescinded a plea deal she agreed to earlier and instead pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent resulting in death, her original charge that was filed in September, according to FOX 28. The details of Lavanway’s previous plea deal are sealed.
Neglect of a dependent carries a sentence of up to 40 years in prison.
Serenity Wilson, 2, died Sept. 19 of multiple blunt force traumas to her head at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was airlifted there after her mother brought her to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. Her death was ruled a homicide.

According to court documents, Serenity was beaten by 23-year-old Shane Weedling, her mother’s boyfriend, because she had wet the bed. Lavanway was at work during the beating, but didn’t seek medical help for serenity for a few hours after she arrived home because she feared that she or Weedling would be arrested.

Weedling was charged in September with aggravated battery resulting in death, neglect of a dependent resulting in death and possession of marijuana.
Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman told FOX 28 that he would be filing additional charges against Lavanway later Thursday.
