One person killed in vehicle-train collision in Mishawaka

One person died after the vehicle they were in was struck by a train in Mishawaka. Emergency crews were called to the railroad tracks at Elder Street just before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The victim was trapped in a vehicle on the tracks, according to a tweet sent by the Mishawaka Fire Department.

Mishawaka Police indicated that the victim, identified as a male from Mishawaka, may have tried to beat the train, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The crossing arms were down at the time, according to WSBT.
