The South Bend Police Department will return to its morning school zone enforcement activities as South Bend students go back to school on Tuesday morning, Aug. 18.

Officers will be parked in school zones with their red and blue lights on to remind drivers to be on the look out for students as class is back in session, according to Capt. Phil Trent with the department.

Police will be on the lookout for drivers who are speeding, not obeying stop signs, violating cell phone laws and not using their turn signals, Trent said.

Because more students and school buses will be on the road, Trent recommends that drivers leave early and give themselves extra time.
