One person dead, others hospitalized after carbon monoxide exposure on a boat

One person has died and several others were treated for carbon monoxide exposure while on a boat off the shore of Jean Klock Park in Benton Harbor.

On arrival, investigators found the three victims onboard the boat and all three were transported by Medic One to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, according to a news release from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

One of the victims was pronounced dead on arrival, one was transported to a Grand Rapids hospital, and the third was listed as in stable condition.

Several first responders were also admitted to the hospital for carbon monoxide exposure, according to the news release.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department is investigating this call as an accidental poisoning.
