A 150-year-old Indiana farmhouse moved to a new home Wednesday, Aug. 5.

The historic Daniel Ward house, which was built at the corner of what is now S.R. 23 and Gumwood Road (Main Street) in 1865, was relocated to the east end of University Drive Court.

The home was purchased by the Blackburn and Green law firm.

Work began at about 7:30 a.m. Crews removed power lines, street signs and traffic lights so that the home could safely move. Trees along the path were also trimmed to ensure safe delivery.

The house began to move around 10 a.m. and headed east on S.R. 23. The house’s path included the Granger Community Church parking lot and University Drive. The house arrived at its new location on the Blackburn and Green property on University Drive Court by 3 p.m.

Hundreds of people lined up at the intersection of S.R. 23 and Gumwood Drive (Main Street) and along the route to watch the house move. At least 100 viewers followed along on several Periscope broadcasts from News/Talk 95.3 MNC.
