Zach Anderson could be re-sentenced, Berrien County judge says

A Berrien County judge is considering a re-sentencing in the case of an Elkhart teen on the sex offender registry.

Zach Anderson, 19, was in court Wednesday, Aug. 5, when the judge said he would consider the re-sentencing, according to reporter Tori Fater with the Elkhart Truth, 95.3 MNC’s news partners.

Judge Dennis Wiley said he’d have to review previous cases for precedent before handing down a decision, according to WNDU.

Wiley handed down Anderson’s sentence of 90 days in jail and 25 years on the sex offender registry earlier this year, which has sparked nationwide debate. The teen pleaded guilty in March to having sex with a 14-year-old Michigan girl, though both he and the girl said it was consensual and that she lied and said she was 17.
