Two children airlifted to Fort Wayne hospital after truck rear-ends buggy near Nappanee, police say

Two small children and two adults were injured when a pickup truck crashed into the back of a horse-drawn buggy near Nappanee on Wednesday afternoon, July 22.

Emergency crews were called to S.R. 19 just north of Nappanee around 4:30 p.m. according to a news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

A 2-year-old girl and a 6-month-old boy were airlifted by Medflight to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with head trauma, according to the news release. They were in the buggy with two adults, who were treated at Elkhart General Hospital for minor injuries.

Both of the children were listed in critical condition Thursday morning, July 23.

The driver of the truck wasn’t injured.
