SOUTH BEND — The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NITCD) will hold five public hearings in South Bend and four other cities about proposed fare price increases on the South Shore Line, according to their website.
The average pre-purchase fare might increase by up to 10 to 15 percent. The cost of traveling on the South Shore Line from South Bend to Millennium Station in Chicago could be raised from $11.75 up to $13 at the very least.
One way tickets purchased through ticket agents, vending machines or on the train could also cost an additional $2.
The NITCD board will decide on the fare increases May 29, 2015. If approved, the fare increases will take effect July 1 for all stations expect Hegewisch. Metra controls Hegewisch fares and approved a fare increase earlier in the year, the South Shore Line website states.
