Body recovered from St. Joseph River near Capital and Jefferson in Mishawaka

A body was recovered Wednesday afternoon, March 25, from the St. Joseph River near the intersection of Capital Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard.

Indiana Michigan Power officials reported a possible body in the river just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, according to a news release from the Department of Natural Resources.

The St. Joseph County Coroner was called to the scene. St. Joseph County Police, Penn Township Fire Department, Mishawaka Fire Department and Indiana Conservation officers were also called to the scene.

Authorities have remained on scene in the area of Capital and Jefferson near the I&M dam ever since.

Identification information was found on the body, but police will inform the family before they release the name to the public, the news release stated.

“We were able to run that name and we did determine that there was a missing persons report filed on that person late last year,” St. Joeseph County Sheriff Mike Grezgorek told 95.3 MNC’s news partner, ABC 57.
