Three people are dead after a shooting Monday afternoon at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph, Mich.
Two baliffs were shot to death by a man being escorted from court to jail, Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey said during a press conference at 4 p.m. The suspect was also shot and killed. A sheriff’s deputy and a civilian were shot and were being treated at an area hospital as of 4:45 p.m.
“I stand here with a heavy heart,” Bailey said.
There are numerous people still inside in the courthouse and being held in place until they are released by police.
A Berrien County Commissioner told our news partners ABC 57 that a man was on his way to jail when he grabbed a gun off of a deputy and began shooting.
The call came in at about 2:25 p.m. The building was evacuated. The scene was secured by 3 p.m., Bailey said.
Police remain on scene and the roads immediately surrounding the courthouse were blocked. Officers and emergency responders are expected to be on scene for several hours.
MSP has secured the scene at the Berrien County courthouse and started its investigation into the shooting that occurred this afternoon.

Now the gun grabbers are going to want to disarm the Deputies to prevent such an incident in the future
