A 20-year-old Elkhart woman was arrested after police say she left her infant daughter in a car in the sun for at least 15 minutes on Sunday afternoon, July 10.

Samantha Hayden, 20, was booked into Elkhart County Jail on a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent, according to our news partners ABC 57.

Officers were called to the 2900 block of Moose Trail in Elkhart for a suspicious vehicle. When they got there, they found an infant child lying inside the vehicle, which was turned off with windows rolled partially down.

Hayden and a man walked out of the woods minutes later and walked up to the officers.

The infant was treated at Elkhart General Hospital and released. The Department of Child Services was notified.
