St. Joe Co. Prosecutor files domestic battery charge against Niles shooting suspect

We are learning more about some of the events which appear to have led to a shooting at a mini-storage facility in Niles.

The suspect police have been looking for, 28-year-old Michael Exom III, has also been charged with domestic battery after an incident that happened at Strikes and Spares in Mishawaka this past Friday.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor says Exom followed the mother of his child, Gequintha Nichols, to her car after their son’s birthday party.

During the course of the discussion, and in front of their child, Exom grabbed Nichols with such force that the shirt and bra ripped where he was holding her and left a mark on her body, the prosecutor said.

Nichols told authorities she then drove to her home in Niles, where Exom followed her.

The state requested higher than standard bond in this case, at $50,000, as the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says Nichols identified Exom as the man who shot her on Sunday at Aaron’s Mini-Storage in Niles.
