One injured in South Bend shooting, two arrested after gunfire heard in Elkhart over the weekend

One person was injured in a weekend shooting in South Bend.

Officers were called just before 3 a.m. Sunday, April 5, to the 1600 block of Western Avenue for a shooting, according to WNDU.

One person was taken to Memorial Hospital after the shooting, which is still under investigation by police.

In Elkhart, two men were arrested after gunfire was reported on Saturday night, April 4.

Witnesses told Elkhart Police Department officers that someone fired a gun from a silver-gray SUV in the 800 block of McDonald Street and the 1300 block of Tipton Street, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the department. No damage was found.

Police located a vehicle nearby matching the description given by witnesses and found two guns and marijuana inside the SUV.

The driver of the SUV, 20-year-old Tiztro Cabrera of Elkhart, was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a handgun without a permit and possession of marijuana, Snyder said.

The passenger, 18-year-old Marco Fernandez of Elkhart, was arrested on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness with a firearm.

Both are being held without bond in Elkhart County Jail.
