Applications for bear, elk hunting licenses now available

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — If you’re interested in hunting bear or elk in Michigan, now is the time to sign up.

The Department of Natural Resources says applications for elk and bear licenses are available through June 1. Officials say 100 elk licenses and 6,951 bear licenses will be available for this year’s seasons.

Only Michigan residents are eligible to apply for an elk license.

Bear licenses are available for both residents and nonresidents. But no more than 2 percent of licenses in any bear management unit will be issued to nonresidents.

Hunters can apply online. Applications also are available at any authorized license agent or at a DNR Customer Service Center.

A nonrefundable $5 fee is charged.
