ELKHART, Ind. (AP) — An Elkhart County judge has ruled a newspaper reporter does not have to turn over notes and recordings from an interview she conducted with a man accused of murder and the suspect’s mother. But Elkhart County Circuit Judge Terry Shewmaker said she does have to be available to testify as a rebuttal witness.
Shewmaker issued a ruling Tuesday granting part of a motion by The Elkhart Truth and reporter Emily Pfund to quash a subpoena by Prosecutor Curtis Hill Jr. for her notes and recordings. However, he ordered her to be available to testify Wednesday. He said if there is no conflicting testimony she may not need to testify.
Pfund interviewed 19-year-old Freddie Rhodes, who is charged with murder in the September shooting death of 18-year-old Dre Tarrious Rodgers.
