Fight between two men, armed with a gun and machete escalates to shots fired

A fight between two men escalated to gunfire. It happened Saturday, May 23, between Poland street and Dunham street in South Bend.

Police say both a machete and a knife were also involved.

Two men were heard arguing in an alley, followed by as many as five gunshots, according to eyewitnesses interviewed by our reporting partners at ABC-57 News.

The gunman fled while friends of the other man chased him with the weapons.

South Bend Police arrived on scene and began a search of the area.

With the assistance of neighbors and the help of the SB150 helicopter, police located both the man with the machete and the gunman, according to ABC-57 News.

There were no injuries reported.

The man who was reported to be armed with the gun was taken into custody.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor will review the case for possible additional charges.
