Few things say “summer” quite like strawberry shortcake.

The 23rd annual Shortcakes on the Blacktop fundraiser returns to the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint James in downtown South Bend on Thursday, June 11.

The shortcakes are baked in the basement of the church and will be served with fresh strawberries, ice cream and whipped topping. They’re $5 each from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Delivery is available until 2 p.m. for orders of five or more shortcakes. Drive-thru service is also available. The shortcakes freeze well.

The containers, napkins and spoons given with each shortcake are biodegradable.

The fundraiser benefits Stone Soup Community, A Rosie Place and St. Margaret’s House.
