Dispatcher talks Michigan couple through home birth of baby

WALLED LAKE, Mich. (AP) — The Oakland County sheriff’s department says a suburban Detroit woman gave birth to a baby boy, with help from her husband and mother and a dispatcher at the other end of a telephone line.

Undersheriff Mike McCabe says the delivery happened Monday evening at a home in Walled lake.

He says dispatch specialist Lisa Ludwig took a call from the woman’s mother and then gave instructions for the woman’s husband to assist with the birth.

McCabe says it all went very fast, with delivery five minutes after the call.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard says that with Ludwig’s training and knowledge, the couple “were able to safely bring the latest addition to their family into the world.”

The department says emergency medical workers took the mother and son to the hospital.
