Driver identified in Niles hit-and-run crash that sent 16-year-old girl to hospital

Niles Police Department investigators have identified the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that injured a 16-year-old girl on Tuesday night, June 23, in Niles, Mich.

The driver is a 24-year-old female resident of Niles, according to Dep. Jon Duthler with the department. She has not been arrested as of 9:15 a.m. Thursday, June 25.

The Berrien County Prosecuting Attorney is reviewing possible charges and may issue a warrant if the woman is charged.

The woman is suspected of driving a vehicle that hit a 16-year-old girl walking on 13th Street at about 11:18 p.m. Tuesday. The woman had stopped to help the girl initially, but then got back in her car and drove away, according to a news release sent Wednesday from the Niles Police Department.

The victim was treated at an area hospital with head, arm and wrist injuries and later released.
