Fourth of July 2015: Fireworks shows planned in Mishawaka, South Bend, Elkhart, Niles and more

Fourth of July wouldn’t be complete without a cookout, the American flag and fireworks.

Several residents will be lighting off fireworks of their own. Here’s a list of scheduled fireworks shows planned throughout Michiana this Independence Day.

INDIANA

SOUTH BEND

Fireworks: After the South Bend Cubs game July 2 and 3 at Four Winds Field, 501 W. South St. Downtown South Bend’s First Friday event includes a watch party of the fireworks from the Cubs game on the Wayne Street parking garage’s roof from 8 p.m. until the fireworks begin. DJ Chuck Fry and DJ Brian Kroger will play music.

Fireworks: At dusk July 4 at the grandstand during the St. Joseph County 4-H Fair, 5117 Ironwood Road. Free with admission to fair ($4 for adults, kids under 8 free).

MISHAWAKA

Fireworks: Live music by Soul Funkshun from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. followed by fireworks at dusk, Saturday, July 4, at Beutter Park, 400 N. Spring St.

ELKHART

Fireworks: Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 3, at Elkhart Central High School’s Rice Field, 1 Blazer Blvd. Festivities include performances from Deadly Obsession and Rachel and the Bluerays followed by fireworks at around 10:30 p.m. Entry is $1 per person at the gate. Rain date is Saturday, July 4. Boat on St. Joe River can gather at Martin’s Bay on the upper St. Joe. CR 17 boat launch. 

Flotilla: The 35th annual flotilla launch is at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 4. Participants may decorate their boat however they like — it’s an open theme this year. Boaters should meet at Six Span Bridge and be ready to start the flotilla parade at 1 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place and for most patriotic flotilla. Bleachers will be set up at Martin’s Landing. Finding Nemo will be shown on the Monster Message from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and the boats will arrive by the landing.

Fireworks: DAV Chapter 19 is hosting a hog roast and cookout with live music and food and drink specials starting at noon at 1205 Middleton Run Road, Elkhart. Event followed by fireworks at dusk.

GOSHEN

Celebrate America: 8 p.m. Sunday, July 5, at the Black Squirrel Golf Course, 1017 Larimer Drive. Veterans will be honored with a prayer, moment of silence and bagpipes. Tim Zimmerman and The Kings Brass will perform. Concessions will be available. Fireworks will follow the live music.

NAPPANEE

Fourth of July Celebration: Several events planned throughout the day Saturday, July 4, followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. or dark at Stauffer Park. Full event schedule.

SYRACUSE

Wawasee Flotilla Road Race: 7 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at Lakeside Park. People may choose to participate in a 3.3 mile walk, 3.3 mile run or 8 mile run. Preregister for $15 by calling 260-894-4638, or register at 7 a.m. the day of the race for $20.

Fireworks: Dusk, Friday, July 3, on Syracuse Lake and dusk, Saturday, July 4, on Lake Wawasee.

Celebrate Syracuse Parade: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 5, from the corner of Main and 13 Streets to Medusa St. along S.R. 13.

Flotilla: Boats meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, near Wawasee Spink, with the flotilla parade beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Lake Wawasee. The theme is “Pirate Parade.” There are additional prizes for the best on-shore decoration. Registration available in advance at local stores, by calling 574.457.3775 or email hollytuttle@yahoo.com for a form. Registration also available day-of at the judges boat. 

WARSAW

Fireworks: Dusk Saturday, July 4, at Winona Lake. Other planned Fourth of July celebration events include a parade, a cutie contest and live music. Full schedule.

Flotilla Boat Parade: 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 5, Winona Lake shoreline.

 

MICHIGAN

DOWAGIAC

Fireworks: Dusk, Friday, July 3, at Russom Park, N. Front St.

CASSOPOLIS

Diamond Lake fireworks: 10:30 p.m. Saturday, July 4, at Diamond Lake.

EDWARDSBURG

Fireworks: Dusk (between 10 and 10:30 p.m.) Saturday, July 4, at Eagle Lake.

NEW BUFFALO

Fireworks: Dusk, fireworks display on the beach over Lake Michigan

NILES

Fireworks Display and Family Fun Fest: Gates open at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Four Flags Area Apple Festival Fairgrounds, 1740 Lake St. Event includes vendors, games, a bounce house for kids and live music. Fireworks will follow the event at dusk. More details online.
