A severely malnourished dog who was found wandering along a rural road in North Liberty earlier this week has died, according to the Facebook group South Bend Lost and Found Pets.

The dog, who vets had called Hope, was being treated at Gilmer Park Animal Clinic, according to earlier reporting by 95.3 MNC. She tested positive for heart worms, and the staff at the animal clinic was trying to help her gain weight and become stronger before any treatment.

Hope was found wandering Tuesday, July 28, on Madison Road about a mile from Redwood Road in North Liberty, according to a Facebook post from the St. Joseph County Police Department. Officers with the police department are looking into whether Hope was a victim of animal cruelty.
