Five people injured after wind gust blows down part of a tree

Five people were sent to the hospital after a strong gust of wind caused part of a tree to fall.

The victims were sitting in the bleachers at Studebaker Park in the 1000 block of McDonald Street in Elkhart, around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, when the tree fell, according to a news release from the Elkhart Police Department.

The five victims were taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment. One of the victims was later transported to Riley Hospital for Children, according to the news release.

City officials have been in contact with the family of those who were injured.
