Retiring a mascot that divided the Goshen community may not end up costing taxpayers any money at all.
The Goshen Redskins mascot will be retired Jan. 1, and a committee of Goshen High School and Goshen Middle School teachers, students and leaders are already working to choose a new mascot, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners The Elkhart Truth.

Officials estimated that retiring the mascot would cost between $7,000 and $16,000, depending on the new mascot, The Truth reported.
Superintendent Diane Woodworth told the Truth that several Native American groups have expressed interest in helping pay for the changes associated with retiring the Redskins mascot. Other supporters of the change have been discussing fundraising options as well.
