Michigan City police officer committed suicide days after being charged with drug possession, police say

A Michigan City Police Department officer who was found dead in his car over the weekend died of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Robert Grant, 37, committed suicide Saturday, Aug. 1, just a few hours before his body was found in his car along C.R. 300 North near C.R. 400 west, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by the South Bend Tribune.

Grant was arrested July 28, at the Michigan City Police Department on charges of possessing a legend drug without a prescription and official misconduct.

LaPorte County Sheriff’s deputies began looking for Grant after they were contacted by a local attorney who told them Grant’s family was concerned that they hadn’t heard from him.
