Body found near river at LaSalle Ave. and Michigan St. in South Bend

St. Joseph County Metro Homicide is investigating the discovery of a male body found near the St. Joseph River in downtown South Bend.

South Bend Police were called to the area of LaSalle Avenue and Michigan Street around 11 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, after an officer found the body of an older man. The officer searched the area after noticing a bicycle near the river that was there the day before, WSBT reported.

LaSalle Avenue was blocked from Michigan to Eddy Street while police, the St. Joseph County Coroner and St. Joseph County Metro Homicide investigators were on scene.

An autopsy is set for Tuesday, Aug. 4, in Kalamazoo.
