Elkhart man killed when motorcycle crashes into utility pole Monday afternoon

An Elkhart man died Monday afternoon, Aug. 17, when his motorcycle crashed into a utility pole in Elkhart.

Billy Harper, 33, died of blunt force trauma he suffered in the crash, according to the Elkhart County Coroner’s Office.

Harper was riding a motorcycle west in the 1200 block of DI Drive at about 3 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the Elkhart Police Department.

The motorcycle was traveling along a curve at a high speed and Harper drove off the road to avoid crashing into an eastbound vehicle. The motorcycle then crashed into a utility pole.
