St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger undergoing $20 million renovation

GRANGER, Ind. (AP) — A northern Indiana church in undergoing a $20 million expansion to accommodate a growing congregation.

The South Bend Tribune reported Monday that workers have been setting the foundation of the new St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger. It will be able to seat more than 1,300 people, which is about twice the capacity of the existing church.

The Rev. Bill Schooler is the pastor. He says the architecture will be a blend of contemporary and traditional.

The new church is expected to be dedicated at the end of next year or early 2017.

The existing church will be renovated for meeting space. The parish has raised about $12 million and is continuing to raise funds.
