Frederickson Street shooting suspect arrested in Georgia by U.S. Marshals

A man suspected of shooting another man to death in South Bend earlier this summer was arrested Friday morning in Georgia.

Marqwan Beserra, 18, was arrested at about 7:30 a.m. by U.S. Marshals in Austell, Ga., according to FOX 28. The local U.S. Marshal Task Force in Michiana obtained information about Beserra’s location that led to his arrest.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office plans to file paperwork soon to secure Beserra’s extradition, according to Jessica McBrier, spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office.

Beserra was charged with murder and a warrant was issued for his arrest June 10 for the June 9 shooting death of 21-year-old Jerry Wright in the 2400 block of Frederickson Street. Police have been searching for him since.

Beserra had gone to a home on Frederickson Street to speak to the mother of his child and eventually starting arguing with Wright, according to court documents. The two men went outside the home to continue the argument and then Beserra shot Wright.

Several witnesses identified Beserra as the shooter, according to court documents.

Beserra is being held at the Cobb County Jail in Georgia, FOX 28 reported.
