SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Coach Brian Kelly says running back Tarean Folston is out for the season after tearing a ligament in his right knee in No. 11 Notre Dame’s 38-3 victory over Texas.
Kelly said Sunday morning that Folston tore his medial collateral ligament and will have surgery later this week.

Folston was injured on his third carry, and jogged off the field with a limp. The 5-foot-9, 214-pound junior led the Irish in rushing last season with 889 yards on 175 carries and was expected to get even more chances this season as the only experienced back.
The loss could be a big blow to the Fighting Irish. Their second-leading rusher from last season, Greg Bryant, left school after being ruled academically ineligible. That leaves one-time wide receiver C.J. Prosise as the top running back. He ran for 98 yards on 20 carries against Texas.
