Vote-by-mail ballot petition approved by Michigan Board of State Canvassers

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A group that wants to amend Michigan’s constitution to implement a mail-in voting system has cleared a procedural step before gathering signatures.

The Board of State Canvassers approved the petition form for the Let’s Vote, Michigan ballot committee on Thursday. Organizers need more than 315,000 valid voter signatures by next July to qualify for the November 2016 statewide ballot.

Starting in 2018, the proposal would make Michigan the fourth state to rely entirely on mail-in ballots for local, state and federal elections.
