The Warsaw Common Council will honor Charlie Smith during its meeting Monday night, Oct. 5.

Smith, 71, died in a plane crash in South Carolina on Friday, Oct. 2. His son, 44-year-old Scott Smith, and their friends Tony L. Elliott, 54, and Scott D. Bibler, 51, also died in the crash.

Smith was a member of the council for 16 years and was running for re-election unopposed in the November elections.

Warsaw Mayor Joseph Thallemer requested that each council member prepare a one to two minute presentation about Smith for the beginning of the meeting, WSBT reported.

The meeting is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Warsaw City Hall, 102 S. Buffalo St.

The city of Warsaw will look into state election laws before deciding how to fill Smith’s position on the council both before and after the November election.
