Investor-owned gas utility companies forecast lower heating bills this winter

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Three major Indiana investor-owned natural gas utilities are projecting significantly lower heating bills this winter as long as the weather is normal

Vectren Energy Delivery, Northern Indiana Public Service Co. and Citizens Energy Group all announced their heating cost projections Tuesday.

NIPSCO says its average residential customers using a total of 620 therms could expect to pay $345 from November through March, about $150 less than last year.

Vectren and Citizens say their customers could see gas bills about 20 percent lower than last year. Vectren says its customers can expect to pay around $445 this winter, based on the average household consumption of approximately 660 therms.

Citizens says the average gas bill for its Indianapolis-area residential customers should be about $475 if the winter is normal.
