Rosie the Riveter gathering planned in Michigan to break Guinness World Record

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A group that’s preserving a portion of a Detroit-area assembly plant where Rosie the Riveter once worked as a museum wants its world record back.

Save the Willow Run Bomber Plant organized an event in March 2014 that set a Guinness World Records mark that recognized the nearly 800 “Rosies” as the “largest gathering of people dressed as Rosie the Riveter.”

Guinness, however, now recognizes an August gathering in Richmond, California, as the record mark with 1,084 participants dressed like the image used to recruit female industrial workers during World War II.

In Michigan, Save the Willow Run Bomber Plant says an Oct. 24 event seeking to get the record back is planned in Ypsilanti Township.

The Detroit Free Press reports they want at least 1,500 participants.
