St. Joseph County attorneys rank Elizabeth Hurley, Steven Hostetler highest among St. Joseph County Superior Court judges

Judge Elizabeth Hurley and Judge Steven Hostetler received the highest ratings out of the eight St. Joseph County Superior Court judges from attorneys during a recent survey by the St. Joseph County Bar Association.

Hurley presides over criminal cases and Hostetler presides over civil cases. Hurley received the least negative reviews, with zero “unacceptable” ratings and five “below average” ratings, the South Bend Tribune reported.

The annual survey asks lawyers to score judges on a five-point scale from “unacceptable” to “exceptional” in 20 different categories, including preparation, patience, legal reasoning and understanding of law. The survey aims to help voters evaluate judges who are elected.

There are no Superior Court judges on the ballot in St. Joseph County in 2015.

Most of the judges received favorable ratings in the survey. Read more about the ratings in the full story from the Tribune
