Authorities: Body of woman, 24, at beach; man still sought

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say the body found along a beach in southwestern Michigan is that of a 24-year-old Watervliet woman.

The Kalamazoo Gazette and broadcasters reported the body of Brandi Mannino washed ashore on Friday morning at Tiscornia Park beach in St. Joseph. Officials say the search for the man she was with was expected to continue on Saturday.

Authorities say Mannino and the unidentified man likely were swept into Lake Michigan Thursday evening while walking on a pier. The water temperature was 51 degrees and high winds were creating powerful waves.

WSJM-AM reports Mannino was an employee of its owner, Midwest Family Broadcasting. A company statement says she “was a bright young woman with a great desire to grow within our company.”
