Man shot in face while deer hunting in Steuben County

HUDSON, Ind. (AP) — State conservation officers are investigating a hunting accident in which a man was shot in the face during a deer hunt in southwestern Steuben County.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the accident happened about 3 p.m. Saturday while 11 family members were hunting deer on 50 acres of woods and fields behind a home in Hudson.

A 34-year-old Wolcottville man was shot below the right cheekbone when two hunters who were standing next to each other fired several times at three deer that were running toward the middle of the field. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition Sunday.

Conservation officers are trying to determine which of the two hunters fired the shot that struck him.
