RAVENNA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a 10-year-old boy has died after an SUV driven by his 14-year-old friend went off a rural road in western Michigan and crashed.

Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler says Jeffrey Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene of the Thursday night crash in Ravenna Township and the 14-year-old was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports the older boy apparently lost control of the vehicle on a dirt road while coming out of a sharp turn.

Roesler says the SUV was “almost destroyed beyond recognition.” He says the 10-year-old who was killed lived in Ravenna Township.

The victim’s stepfather, Andy Wilson, says “one stupid act” now has “destroyed so many people.” He wants the 14-year-old charged with a crime.
