A woman suspected of making meth in St. Joseph and Marshall counties was arrested Wednesday evening, Dec. 9, after police say she led them on a chase for about 10 miles through St. Joseph County.

Joanna Elder, 32, arrived at a home in the 700 block of South Lake Street in South Bend while officers were investigating the reported meth lab and then drove away, WNDU reported.

Officers attempted a traffic stop at about 5 p.m., but Elder refused to stop and instead led police on a 10-mile chase. Police used stop sticks to puncture the tires of the Elder’s vehicle. The chase ended in the 100 block of Dubail Avenue in South Bend about 17 minutes after it began.

Elder was arrested and charged with dealing methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine, according to online court records. She could face additional charges in connection to the car chase.

Police are still investigating.
