GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A stranger helped ease the pain of another customer overcome by the cost of a repair at a western Michigan dealership.

Television stations WOOD, WZZM and WXMI report Centhia Fleming was shocked by a more than $800 car repair Thursday at Fox Saab in Grand Rapids. Another customer overheard Fleming trying to figure out how to pay for it.

Amy Kornoelje approached an employee and offered to the pay the bill, which the dealership reduced to about $430. Kornoelje tells WOOD-TV she told herself, “You’ve been here before,” and felt “like I need to help her out.”

Fleming says she cried and agreed to heed Kornoelje’s request to “pay it forward” and help someone else when she can. The single mother recently lost one of two jobs.
